Ballet – being fit for life!

Dance and especially ballet are fantastic ways to be healthy.  It’s no wonder that the news often reports about its benefits whatever your age.

My Google search when writing this blog says, Recent 2025 and 2026 research confirms that ballet is a powerful, holistic workout offering significant physical, mental, and cognitive benefits for all ages, from improving posture to potentially reducing the risk of dementia. Studies highlight ballet as an effective tool for boosting brain health, increasing endurance, and fostering social connection.

What do we learn in ballet which means dance is so good for you?  Here are a few key points:

  • From the very first lesson we teach children flexibility and balance, which both aid core strength and grace
  • Dancing combines cardio-vascular and light muscular strengthening exercises which improve aerobic fitness
  • Similarly constant dance movement, both varied and repetitive, improves core strength, enhancing balance and posture
  • Dance combines music, movement, and social activity which together improve mental health and well-being.
