Seasons have always inspired art and culture, none more so than ballet. From the blooming and awakening of nature in springtime to the snow and ice of winter, ballet characterises the seasons in some of the most beautiful and famous dances of all types.
Some of my own favourites are:
- Springtime – The Rite of Spring – an awe-inspiring modern ballet choreographed by the legendary Nijinksky whose innovations startled and even shocked audiences when it was first performed
- Summer – La Fille Mal Gardee – one of the most wonderful of all English ballets which is a huge favourite at the Royal Ballet and which our own students have performed excepts from at our 2024 Christmas Show
- Autumn – Giselle – a quintessential romantic ballet that tells the tragic story of the peasant girl Giselle and her doomed love for a nobleman who jilts her
- Winter – I loved Christopher Wheeldon’s The Winter’s Tale, but The Nutcracker is the greatest Christmas ballet of them all. And we are thrilled that our students will be performing it at our 2026 Christmas Show at Collyer Hall Theatre, King’s College School, Wimbledon. Our students will enjoy a wide-ranging programme that will also feature modern, tap and contemporary dance. I am really looking forward to seeing them perform.
So whatever the season there is always plenty of ballet and other dance at West Wimbledon Dance Academy. Do please contact us if you would like to have a trial lesson. Our contact details are on our website.
